A special court’s order - which asked for a statement in the high treason case being recorded through a commission – was challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by the former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf.
On October 15, Musharraf was ordered by a special court to record his statement through a commission in in the high treason case against him. The retired general challenged the order in the IHC, submitting a petition that said that the formation of a commission by the special court to record the statement was completely unprecedented and was never done before in Pakistan’s criminal procedure.
The former government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had filed the treason case against Musharraf over the former president’s imposition of extra-constitutional emergency in November 2007. After appearing before the court in March 2014, the former army chief rejected all charges that he was indicted in.
