‘CJP violated oath, supported dictator's endeavours’

ISLAMABAD  - The Naib Khateeb of Lal Masjid, Maulana Aamir Siddiqui has accused Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of violating his Quranic oath by withdrawing from Arsalan Iftikhar case.
Addressing a Press conference here at the Lal Masjid on Thursday, he said that after this deliberate withdrawal of the Chief Justice, which rather supported the earlier stance of a dictator (former President Pervez Musharraf), there was a dire need for evolving a new oath of office for judges of the Supreme Court.
In a recently filed petition in the Shariah Court through advocate Riaz Hanif and nominating the State as defendant, Maulana Aamir prayed that the current oath for judges of apex courts bounds them to refrain from hearing, reviewing any case involving their (judges) blood relations over concerns of compromising partiality.
"Yet, despite taking an oath over The Holy Quran that he had the strength to review and decide the issue of his son, the Chief Justice of Pakistan took refuge in the stance of the "judges code of conduct" and made a safe exit from an otherwise difficult verdict, he might have had generated", stated the Naib Khateeb.
Maulana Aamir also said that during the regime of former President Pervez Musharraf, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, yet again faltered in maintaining the sagacity and solemnity of Constitution and Supreme Court by succumbing to Musharraf's PCO (Provisional Constitutional Order), taking office over PCO.
"This negates Article 62's description of a trustworthy guardian of Constitution and law," he stated.
