KARACHI - A large number of civil society activists on Thursday staged a protest rally outside the Karachi Press Club, condemning the attack on the life of Malalah Yousafzai, a peace icon who stood against the tyranny of Taliban.A candlelight procession was also held as part of the protest afterwards. The protestors lit candles as well as oil lamps. They also had bands tied around their arms and heads with slogans ‘I am Malalah’ inscribed on them.The activists of Women Action Forum, Pakistan Peace Coalition, National Students Federation, Labour Party Pakistan, PILER, Aurat Foundation, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, War Against Rape (WAR), HANDS, Actionaid and others participated in the protest, chanting anti-Taliban slogans. The male and women activists carrying placards with slogans ‘Taliban afraid of an innocent girl Malalah, we will not let the Pakistan to be theocrat state, we are with Malala, struggle goes on, we will not bow down to Taliban and arms men, progressive and educated women key for stable Pakistan’ inscribed on them.Women and human rights activists Anis Haroon, Karamat Ali of Piler, Saleha Athar, Ramzan Memon, Nasir Mansoor, Farhat Parveen and Khurram Abbas besides Attiqa Odho of APML, MPA Marvi Rashdi of PML-F and others participated in the protest demo and condemned the cowardly attempt on the life of Malalah Yousafzai. The protesters demanded an immediate inquiry into the matter where all the culprits should be brought to justice. They also prayed for early recovery of brave daughter of Pakistan and expressed solidarity with her family. They also expressed concern over the medial treatment being given to Malalah, as not much information available even in the national media, once the hype of the attack had become ‘stale news’. They demanded that government should prepare an anti-terrorism policy to combat the menace. The speakers regretted that despite presence of strong contingents of Army in Swat for maintenance of peace along with police and paramilitary forces, the terrorists of Taliban shot the girls after identification.
