Dacoits kill ASI, injure security guard


LAHORE – An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was killed while a security guard sustained multiple bullet injuries in a shootout with armed dacoits at Sui Gas Employees Housing Society in the Raiwind area in the wee hours of Thursday.
Police concerned said that four robbers barged into a house for dacoity when security guard Imran raised alarm. Meanwhile, a police team that was on routine patrolling reached the spot. On seeing the police, the bandits opened fire on them and managed to flee from the scene.
ASI Muhammad Fayyaz who had received bullet injuries instantly died, while the security guard suffered injuries and was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital where he is being operated and his condition is said to be critical until the filing of this report. A special police team has been constituted to nab the bandits.  Further investigation is underway.
GANG SMASHED: Investigations police on Thursday claimed to have smashed a gang of robbers by arresting its three members including the ringleader. Police also said that they had recovered three motorcycles and looted valuables from their possession.
According to a police spokesman, Misri Shah Investigations Police had arrested three bandits of the Pathan gang, identified as Shahzad Khan, Mirza Mohsin Baig and Adil Waheed. The alleged robbers have also confessed to several incidents of street crimes. Further investigations are underway.
DRUGS PEDDLERS HELD: Two notorious drug-peddlers were rounded up and 210 bottles of liquor, 1,000 cans of beer and 3,000 litres chemical used in manufacturing liquor was recovered from their possession in the Gulshan-e-Ravi area on Thursday. As per details, two culprits Imtiaz alias Bilian and Joseph Masih were involved in manufacturing liquor for the past six year. Further investigation is underway.
BODY FOUND: Naulakha Police recovered a body of a 50-year-old unidentified man from Muhammad Nagar on Thursday. Police concerned pronounced him as a drug addict and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.
COPS DISMISSED: Investigations DIG Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed on Thursday dismissed four police officers from their services and demoted five others from their ranks on the charges ranging from corruption to defective investigations.
According to an official handout, the DIG personally listened to the officers in response to show cause notices issued earlier and awarded punishment after they were found guilty.
Four police officers – Mughalpura In-charge (Investigations) Inspector Tayyab Ashraf, Muslim Town In-charge (Investigations) Inspector Sohail Bashir, Shafiqabad In-charge (Investigations) Khalid Yaqoob and Green Town Police Station ASI Muhammad Ramazan – were dismissed from their services; while five other police officers including one inspector were demoted on the orders of the DIG on corruption charges and faulty investigations into crime cases.
