ISLAMABAD - Some armed persons kidnapped a former brigadier of Pakistan army in a broad daylight when he stepped out of his residence situated in Defense Housing Authority, and fled away to unknown destination on Thursday.
During this operation, a guard cum driver of the former brigadier was gunned down when he offered resistance, police said.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Sahala police station. The unidentified kidnappers intercepted Brigadier (r) Tahir Masood, who is said to have served the Inter Services Intelligence Agency’s counter-terrorism until he got retired, and shot down his driver.
The police could know about the incident only after a passerby informed the Rescue 15 about the incident.
Eye-witnesses told the police that the gunmen shot down driver Muhammad Hussain as he tried to stop the gunmen from kidnapping his boss.
While the Islamabad police teams is yet to establish who might be involved in the kidnapping.
Well informed sources told TheNation on condition of anonymity that a group of militants based in ‘Mir Ali’ and headed by a diehard commander Saifullah Mouavia, was involved in the incident.
“It is believed that Asmatullah Mouavia’s men have kidnapped the brigadier. Mouavia has been involved in attacking General Headquarters Rawalpindi a couple of years back in which more than hundred people were martyred,” the sources said.
Kidnapping of the high profile personality from a posh sector of Islamabad has exposed the tall claims of Chief Police Officer of the Islamabad police who earlier had said that Islamabad capital territory has been made secure with taking foolproof security arrangements.
When contacted, a spokesperson of Islamabad police confirmed the kidnapping and said police teams were investigating the case following registering of FIR in the Sahala police station.
According to the sources, teams of FIA, police and NADRA have been formed for investigation.
