JHANG - At least seven people including four women were killed and 15 other received injuries in different incidents of honour killing, family dispute and mishaps here in different areas over the past 24 hours.
As per detail, a man namely Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Jinnah Colony Shortkot with the connivance of his son-in-law Ammanat Ali has killed his two daughter Sonia and Rubina Bibi by giving them poisonous food for honour. Sharif suspected that his daughter including the one married off to Amanat Ali had developed illicit relation. The Shortkot Police have registered a case and started investigation.
In another incident one Tanveer Ahmed, a resident of Chak 485 in the waryamwala Police axed to death his married sister Farkhanda Bibi for honour. He suspected his sister of having developed illicit relation with someone of the same chak. The Waryamwala Police have registered a case of the incident.
Similarly, Habib Ahmed, a resident of Bindi Khurd in the Athara Hazari Police was crushed by a tractor when was crossing a road.
Meanwhile, two persons - eight-month-old Areem and Hameeda were killed while another three including Aisha Bibi, M Ameen and another woman sustained serious injuries when a tyre of their car burst near Madhani Jutt, some 20-km from here on Jhang-Faislaabad Road. The car struck against a roadside truck and then overturned. In yet another road accident, one Zaheer Hassan was killed and other 12 passengers injured when a Sialkot-bound passenger bus on the way from Layyah overturned near Rodo Sultan on Jhang-Layyah Road while trying over take another passenger bus. The injured were admitted to DHQ Hospital Jhang. The Saddr Police have registered a case of the incident.
Women empowerment: DCO Shahid Naiz has said that better facilities should be provided to women working in various govt, semi-government and private organisations to eliminate gender discrimination.  He was presiding over a meeting of Gender mainstreaming committee held here the other day.  The meeting was attended by members of local administration including EDOs of different departments and representatives of different NGOs and other social welfare organizations.  The DCO said that special attention should be given to facilitate women working in education and special education departments.
He said that all departments at district level should ensure implementation of five percent quota reserved for women in their respective jurisdiction and the number of vacancies against women quota should be clearly mentioned in the advertisement.
Earlier, the meeting was briefed by EDO Community Development and Gender Reform Action Plan Specialist about the scope and objective of the GRAP.
