KARACHI - The University of Karachi is organizing the launching ceremony of book- Chinese Made Easy.A spokesperson of the university said on Thursday that the book has been written by High Commissioner for Pakistan in Singapore, Syed Hasan Javed, on October 12. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, will preside over the event. It is pertinent to note that Syed Hasan Javed is an alumnus of Karachi University.Meanwhile, An award ceremony was held here on Thursday to honor the winners of the Easy Steps Story Contest as part of Intel’s global celebration to mark the First International Day of the Girl. An announcement here said that the contest was organised nationwide from January to September 2012 wherein participants were asked to describe how technology had changed their lives. Syed Faisal Sabzwari, Minister for Youth Affairs, Government of Sindh, was the chief guest on the occasion.According to organisers, the Intel Easy Steps programme addresses the needs of adults and youth around the world. who seek to learn basic digital literacy skills. The programme is currently deployed in 20 countries with a simple instructional approach and comprises basic computer literacy skills.The awards ceremony was part of Intel’s global ‘She will’ Campaign- a focused programme created to empower girls and women around the world by fostering equal economic and educational opportunities, with programmes to encourage millions of girls and women to participate, prosper, and lead in the global economy.Speaking on this occasion, Naveed Siraj, Country Manager of Intel Pakistan said, his organization has been a leader in creating technologies that advance the way people, live, work, and learn. To foster innovation and drive economic growth, it is essential to empower women and this can only be achieved through education, equal employment opportunities and imparting entrepreneurial skills.
