RAWALPINDI - The government of Punjab has ordered the colleges to shut down all the computer centres formed 15 years ago with the collaboration of the private sector and to start the computer classes under government arrangements.
On the decision the Punjab government, the provincial government is expecting income of billions of rupees while earlier private partners have hinted to move court against the decision.
According to sources, the provincial government was evaluating the pros and cons of the computer centres in the government colleges running in collaboration with the private sector for last two years.
In a meeting with the Secretary Education Punjab, Director of Colleges, Rawalpindi said that the officials of the private sector had established their monopoly in the government colleges and ruining the discipline by keeping the government colleges till evening for computer courses.
He further opined that the private sector was earning billions after spending millions in the government colleges, which the Punjab government could earn too.
After a consultation with the directors of the colleges, the provincial government decided not to extend the contracts of the private sector and start computer classes in the government college on their own. It is pertinent to mention here that the contracts were to be renewed in August this year.
On the other hand, the persons from the private sector said that they took the risk of establishing the computer centres when the government was not taking the risk and worked hard to make the computer centres a success. Now that the centres are successful, the government was separating from the system, they said, adding they would challenge the decision in the court.
