They said the security protocol to the Provincial Assembly Members and other VIPs caused blockage of the main Khyber Road, which irked the passengers. Osaid Khan stuck in a rush at Tehkal area said that, it might be this traffic jam that would be the cause of constructions at different sites on the road. But the government should open the Khyber Road for the public transport vehicles to cope with this traffic mess. Another college student Anees Raza told The Nation that, “it is difficult for us to meet our college timings, because I come through public transport to college, and we stuck after each two minute of travel.” He said that they were confronted with huge traffic mess in the whole area from Haji Camp to the university through Sadder and Tehkal. But now after the closure of Khyber Road our route became so long. A driver became tired to cope with this much long route and huge traffic. In the early days the people directed to university or some other destination on the university road refers wagons to travel with, but now it got the same speed as the mini-buses and we lost the people preference. If the Khyber Road opens it would be not less than Eid for wagon transporters he added. Senior Superintend Police (SSP) traffic Peshawar Muhammad Ali Zia told TheNation that “main reason of the traffic jam in the city is the different road constructions, fly-over and under-pass constructions. He mentioned the construction of the Mufti Mehmood fly-over, the construction of two under-passes one at Tehkal and another at Jahangeerabad and many other construction activities. About the closure of the Khyber Road he said that it is just because of the security reasons, and one couldn’t say when it open? But when the security issue resolved and the situation settled. He said that we allowed the public traffic on the Khyber road from the University Road side to the Shami Road for the public convenience. Other half of the Khyber Road where the Provincial Assembly, Civil Secretariat and army residence are located bounded for the public transport vehicles.
