Troika reviews strategy to purge militancy

ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari chaired a high-level meeting Thursday that reviewed the overall security situation in the country, largely focusing on the terrorist attack on Malala Yousafzai.
Although there was no official word about the meeting till late night, sources said that the meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and other senior officials.
The meeting condemned terrorist attack on Malala and agreed to formulate a new strategy to prevent such incidents.
Sources said that COAS, while briefing the meeting about the best possible arrangements made for treatment of Malala, reiterated total resolve of the armed forces in combating militancy.
Gen Kayani also informed the meeting of actions being taken against terrorists and operational preparedness of the armed forces, sources added.
President Zardari, in his remarks, said that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure internal security of the country and the government and public would not be scared of few militant elements.
The meeting, sources said, decided some steps involving joint efforts of civil and military leadership for combating militancy and preventing such incidents in the future.
