Tour ‘satisfies’ minister about Ashura security

MANDI BAHAUDDIN- Adequate arrangements have been made for the security of mourning congregations and Ashura processions and the police have been put on red alert to tackle any unpleasant incident.
Punjab Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed Uddin was informed at a briefing held during her visit to routes of processions here the other day. The minister, accompanied by DCO Muzaffar Sial, DPO Omer Salamat, AC Shabbir Cheema and Traders Association President Asad Idrees, toured the city and reviewed security arrangements. The DCO, briefing the minister, claimed that he held meetings with peace committee members and religious scholars from all schools of thoughts of the district who had assured their role for creating harmony. Pillion-riding has been banned and section 144 has been imposed in the district while the Gepco will not conduct power loadshedding on 10th of Muharram.
Regarding security and traffic plans, the DPO informed that all available resources and manpower has been utilised for security, adding that CCTV cameras have been installed along the routes of Muharram processions to check movement of the suspicious elements. He said that a total of 1,365 police personnel including DSPs have been deployed to deal with any emergent situation. Walk-through gates have also been installed at Imambargahs.
