ISLAMABAD -  A writ petition against the examination regulations 2021 introduced by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) was moved before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

Former secretary Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Waqas Malik advocate said that he was filing the case on the wishes of late Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan who has died on Sunday.

The lawyer said that Dr A Q Khan had been worried due to discriminatory attitude with the young doctors and he instructed him to file a petition on his behalf. He continued that he had got signature of Dr Khan on power of attorney and the plea, which was supposed to be filed on this day.

Malik said that now he wanted to pursue this case himself after the demise of national hero. In his petition, he cited Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination and others as respondents.

IHC reserves judgment against construction of Margalla Avenue

The petition said that new test system had been introduced for the medical students and its fee had been increased to Rs6, 000. He added that it was not correct to introduce new test system without giving appropriate time to students.

Therefore, he prayed to the court that students should be promoted on merit instead of adopting a commercial approach. He also prayed to the court to declare examination regulations 2021 of PMC as null and void.

Meanwhile, a single bench of IHC reserved its judgment in a petition against construction of Margalla Avenue without its approval in line of environment hazards.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq conducted hearing of the case filed by the citizens of the federal capital against the construction of Margalla Avenue along with Margalla National Park.

The petition said that the application for approval in line of environment was given after the start of construction. The bench asked that what would be the future of Margalla Avenue if the approval was not granted.

The lawyer representing Capital Development Authority (CDA)   informed the court that Margalla Avenue package-I was continuing since 2012 and its fifty percent work had been completed.

Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) stated that this department was responsible for the protection of Margalla Hills and it was not consulted regarding the matter.

The bench said that environment meant not only trees but everything like protection of wildlife and controlling its pollution.

The bench reserved its verdict after hearing the arguments.
