CDWP approves projects worth Rs93b

ISLAMABAD - Central Development Working Party (CDWP) Monday accorded approval to two projects worth Rs 93.28 billion.
A CDWP meeting presided over by the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, cleared one development project with a cumulative estimated cost of Rs 3.72billiion,   and recommended one project worth Rs 89.56bn to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
Secretary Planning Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, senior officials from the Planning Commission and federal ministries/divisions also participated in the meeting, while representatives from provincial governments participated through video conference. 
Projects related to Agriculture and Food, Climate Change and Physical Planning and Housing were presented in the meeting. A project related to Agriculture and Food, Climate Change presented in the meeting namely “Village Rehabilitation Programme (VRP) under umbrella program of COVID-19 responsive and other natural clematis control program, sub component No. 3 National Program for Water and Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and sub component No.4 National Program for Improvement in Local Infrastructure Livelihood” worth Rs 3720 million were approved by CDWP. The project envisages to provide 54615 household surveyed in 101 union councils of 05 districts, development of a comprehensive MIS/Dashboard, safe drinking water supply schemes and latrines to the poor households, brick pavements schemes along with sanitation drains. 
A project related to Physical Planning and Housing presented in the meeting namely “Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project” worth Rs 89560 million referred to ECNEC for further approval. The project aims to provide integrated WASH infrastructure development to almost 2000 villages, to provide safely managed drinking water and improved sanitation facilities to the rural population in 2000 selected villages, rejuvenate the existing water supply and sanitation infrastructure, to support the institutional reform, educate, and raise awareness about behaviours etc.
The CDWP also considered the project for the construction of 306 KM Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway. The project to be completed on BOT basis with an estimated cost of Rs 191.471 billion, source privy to the meeting told The Nation. The project for the construction of Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway was returned by the forum and directed the sponsor to first get it approved from the Board of PPP and submit it for the next meeting, the source added.
The project on COVID-19 response and other natural calamities control programme Sindh was also deferred by the CDWP, the source maintained. The PSDP-funded project is jointly financed by the government of Pakistan and government of Sindh on 50:50 per cent, sharing basis costing of Rs20.522b.
