Sialkot-Kharian highway to be constructed on PPP mode

ISLAMABAD-Public Private Partnership Authority is seeking participation of qualified private sector parties to construct and operate 70km-long 4-lane Sialkot-Kharian highway on PPP mode. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired meeting to review various projects under PPP mode. Additional Secretary Ministry of Planning, Chief Executive Officer PPPA Malik Ahmed Khan and senior officials were present the meeting.
During the meeting, CEO briefed the minister on various administrative and operational matters of PPPA. Ahmad also discussed NHA project particularly Sambrial- Khariyan Motorway on BOT basis under Public Private Partnership arrangements in collaboration with National Highway Authority (NHA).
CEO Malik Ahmad said that P3A collaboration with NHA is seeking participation of qualified private sector parties to construct and operate 70km-long 4-lane Sialkot-Kharian highway on PPP mode. The commercial feasibility study of the project has been completed by NHA. He said that they are also engaging development parties for transaction structure for the project, capable of offering value-for-money solution to the public sector while allowing a viable structure for the private sector participation.
Minister Planning Asad Umar said that Sialkot-Kharian Motorway is an important project and it will go a long way in establishing the nation P3 program and paving the way for more similar projects and transactions in the future”.  We need to make well-structured PPPs to attract more investment and increase the efficiency of these investments and these projects would help to provide good road infrastructure facilities in collaboration with private sector, said Asad Umar
It was informed that P3Authority is currently managing 51 PSDP Plus portfolio projects. Feasibility studies of 9 projects have been completed, while for another 9 projects, these are underway, a source privy to meeting said.
Public Private Partnership Authority has also identified 16 projects including Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway, Sialkot Kharian Motorway, 500 Bedded Teaching and Research Hospital, Thar Coal Block II Rail connectivity project etc which are ready for execution, said the source.
