17 militants killed in Orakzai operation


ORAKZAI AGENCY - As many as 17 militants were killed and eight others sustained injuries when security forces' jet fighters shelled their positions in Orakzai Agency on Thursday.
According to details, backed by the security forces, the jet fighter planes pounded militants' hideouts at Adar Jandari Kali and Bota Khel in Mamozai area. As a result, at least nine militants were killed, five others got injured while their positions were destroyed completely.
In another incident, militants attacked a security forces check post at Dolli area. However, the forces retaliated with full force and killed at least eight militants and injured three others.
Later, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Reuters adds: Militants ambushed an Army patrol in the Sararogha area of the South Waziristan tribal region near the border with Afghanistan, killing four soldiers, security officials said.
The Pakistani Taliban, an umbrella organisation of militant groups, have strongholds across South Waziristan. The Pakistani military has been conducting operations in the area since 2009.
