KARACHI  - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan said on Sunday his party and other political groups along with labour unions would launch an anti-privatisation movement from January 16.

“PML-N government has completely failed to resolve problems of the people; the country has become a jungle of crises, but the government intends to privatise even the flourished national institutions,” he said during a press conference at Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq.

Hasan stated JI had decided to take to streets against the privatization move. He said the party had evolved a strategy to initiate a peaceful countrywide drive against the privatization of national institutions.

He said the government did not take the stakeholders into confidence while making decisions regarding privatization of national institutions. “Representatives of the government lied that they had taken the decision after a consensus.”

Hasan announced that a grand meeting of political parties and labour unions would be held on January 16 in Karachi, in which the matters related to anti-privatization movement would be discussed. He said MQM was not invited to this meeting. He said the government in a letter to the International Monetary Fund said a consensus had been made with all the political parties and Parliament about privatization of national institutions. “They misguided IMF by telling the lie that the Council of Common Inertests and all the political parties had agreed to the privatization move,” he added.

JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, other party leaders Muslim Pervez, Muzaffar Hashmi, Zahid Askari, PASLU General Secretary Zafar Khan, PIACE Union General Secretary Obaidullah and trade union leaders were also present.

Talking about former president Pervez Musharraf, Hasan said some political parties, such as the MQM and PML-Q, were trying to sabotage the legal process against Musharraf. He said it was important that the judicial trial was supported against the dictator. He added that the judiciary should adopt transparency in the treason case against the former military ruler.
