Qadri-led protest against govt on 17th

The opposition parties are all set to organise protest demonstration on The Mall on January 17 (Wednesday).

PAT spokesperson Noorullah Siddiqui claimed that the agitation will not end until it achieved its goal of overthrowing the PML-N government. When asked if PAT sought permission from district management to hold protest on a main artery of the city, he said PAT alone did not need any permission since all opposition parties owned the protest and will participate in it.  “Why we need permission to hold protest from the government to whom we want to overthrow? It is not alone a PAT’s protest rather it is protest by all opposition parties including the PTI and PPP,” he said. PAT Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri, in a separate statement, welcomed PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari’s announcement to participate in January 17’s protest. Besides the opposition parties, he said yesterday, the organisations of farmers, labourers and lawyers will also be the part of the protest going to be organised to overthrew Sharifs regime. He said Model Town killings, corruption, amendment in finality of prophet-hood law and Zainab murder were the agenda items of the protest movement. Meanwhile, Pir Hameedudin Sialvi said he will soon announce the protest rally in Lahore to get resignation of Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. He said the rally on Khatme Nabowat issue was postponed because of Kasur incident but it was not cancelled. –Staff Reporter

PAT moves court over Kasur tragedy

A woman leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf on Friday moved Sessions court seeking registration of FIR against Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah over killings of two citizens during protests in Kasur.  Tanzeela Imran, the petitioner, said that police did indiscriminate firing on the protesters in Kasur and as a result two peoples lost their lives. She said that the Punjab CM and the law minister had taken oath for protection of the life and property of the citizens. By doing this, the police took the law into their hands, she said.  She asked the court to order the police to lodge FIR against them.  The murder after rape of little girl sparked violent protests in Kasur which claimed at least two more lives on Wednesday. The brutalisation of seven-year-old Zainab also sent ripples of anger across the country. As television channels reported on child’s gruesome murder and flashed pictures of police firing on an angry mob to check its advance to the deputy commissioner’s office, people at large took to social media to condemn inefficiency and apathy of authorities. –Staff Reporter

The latest rape and murder of a child is the sixth such incident reported in the Kasur district during the last three months, police sources revealed. In 2017, police reported over one dozen such cases in the same district.
