PPP moves Punjab PA over fertiliser shortage, Murree tragedy

Lahore - Parliamentary leader of Pakistan People’s Party and Secretary General Central Punjab Syed Hassan Murtaza on Wednesday submitted two separate adjournment motions in Punjab Assembly seeking general discussion on the shortage of fertilizer and the Murree incident.

The resolution on fertiliser issue said that there was an acute shortage of fertiliser in Punjab and black marketing was at its peak. “The farmers were worried over the non-availability of fertiliser for the sowing of wheat. They were getting one bag of fertiliser after waiting for hours in queues. The farmers were unable to fulfill their needs with one or two bags available on government rates,” said the resolution.

Hassan Murtaza showed his concern over the availability of one bag of fertiliser at Rs2800 instead of Rs1000. The farmers of Punjab including the areas of Faisalabad and Chiniot were worried, he said.

In another adjournment motion filed by Hassan Murtaza on the Murree incident in which 23 people lost their lives, Hassan Murtaza said it happened due to sheer mismanagement of the PTI government in Punjab. “There was no arrangement by the government for clearance of roads blocked due to snowfall. Hotel owners in Murree charged Rs50,000 rent for one room instead of Rs 5000. Parking owners charged Rs1000 to Rs500 per car. People were forced to spend night on roads due to high hotel fares and parking fares,” the PPP leader stated in his resolution.
