KARACHI - The Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) will step up its efforts to promote interfaith harmony across the country, it was learnt on Wednesday.In the first phase, the council will organise the structure of religious alliance at provincial levels, sources said. After holding the successful meetings of the central leadership of non-electoral alliance of MYC, the coalition of non-political alliance of religious parties has decided to organise the organisational structure of the council at grass-root level to promote harmony and unity among different religious schools of thought, they added.The sources said the meeting to organise the provincial structure would be held on September 12 simultaneously in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Gilgit, Quetta and Muzaffarabad. When contacted, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Central Deputy General Secretary Muhammad Ameen Shaheedi said the council was striving to promote brotherhood and unity among the Pakistani people.He added the provincial leaders of the member parties would be part of the provincial set up and they would attend the meetings being held in the provincial capitals on September 12.He said that real object of the MYC non-electoral alliance of religious parties was to promote interfaith harmony in the country and that sectarian and religious hatred was a tool of anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan forces to destabilise the country for vested interests.In reply to a question, he said the council was not the parallel body of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal or Difa-e-Pakistan Council, adding that it was a non-electoral alliance of the leading religious organisations of the country. He said that the sectarian issues had reached a level where a need was felt that the Milli Yakjehti Council should be revived.Altaf condemns Lahore attack: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Thursday strongly condemned the attack on a building in Ichhra area of Lahore and expressed his sorrow over the killing of police personnel, mostly hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.  In a statement, he said that the sacrifices being offered by the armed forces, security forces and the general public against the terrorism would not go wasted as the entire nation was united against the menace of terrorism. He said that the attack on the police personnel was an attack on the security of the country. He further said that the terrorists were the open enemies of the country. He demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Federal Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take serious notice of the Ichhra incident. He said that the terrorists should be brought to the book and given exemplary punishment.
