LHC Chief Justice asks Punjab Higher Education Dept to report on slow working of Punjab HEC accreditation committee

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice has admonished the accreditation committee of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) over exceeding its jurisdiction, ordering Punjab Higher Education Department (PHED) to submit a report in this regard. The chief justice, in his note, empowered the PHED to dissolve the existing committee, and form a new one to resolve all pending cases of private sector universities on merit. The private sector universities are suffering immensely due to slow processing in spite of spending huge amounts on providing education to the youth of the country. The chief justice expressed his concern over slow proceedings of pending cases by the accreditation committee in this fast-paced era of information technology and ordered the PHEC to send all pending cases with its recommendations to the PHED. The chief justice further stated that role of the accreditation committee was to forward the cases, pertaining to private sector universities, to the PHEC with its recommendations. “On the contrary, it is rejecting applications, which is quite surprising,” he said. Accreditation Committee Chairman Dr Khalid Aftab has already resigned due to his incompetence, but he is still working as a member of the PHEC.
