Black Day observed across country

KARACHI : Black coats observed Black Day on Monday across the country to protest the killings of lawyers and political workers on May 12, 2007 in Karachi. In Karachi, lawyers wore black strips on their arms and boycotted the courts. Due to the protest, hearing of several cases could not take place. Prisoners were sent back to central jail. In the general body meetings of Sindh High Court Bar Association and other district bars of the province, a swift action was demanded against the people involved in the killings.
Lawyers also boycotted the courts in Hyderabad, Sukkar, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Nawabshah, Nowshero Feroz, Shahdad Kot and Sanghar.
In Lahore, Rawalpindi and several other cities of Punjab, black coats participated in court proceedings wearing strips on their arms. However, lawyers in several cities of South Punjab completely boycotted the court proceedings.
Advocates of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan also observed Black Day.
