Islamabad: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that the opposition was giving misinformation in the Parliament about electricity tariff. He said power tariffs are decided by NEPRA and not in the MoUs. He also categorically stated that there has been no violation of agreement in the implementation of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park project.
Speaking on a call attention notice by Sherry Rehman in the Senate today, Abid Sher Ali said the present government always took the decisions in the interest of the country.
Sherry Rehman said while they all agree with the CPEC’s projects worth $ 46 billion, but there are other projects like Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park where there are reports of violations. She said the tariff issue has become controversial.
Abid Sher Ali said the information given to the house by the Senator were wrong and the MoU signed about the project has no mention of tariff. He said the MoU was signed by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said it is a project of $ 1.5 billion and NEPRA has determined tariff of 1.41 cents per unit.
Minister of State for Water and Power said that the government is ensuring transparency in power related projects. This, he said, has helped save 110 billion rupees in LNG and RLNG projects.
