Lahore - Salman Jehangir seized 7th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf title here at the Garrison Golf and Country Club golf course on Sunday.
In the final moments of this championship which ended in a sudden death playoff between the ultimate winner and 14-year-old Damil Attaullah, champion Salman managed to prevail over his teen-aged adversary Damil through steady display and application of golfing adeptness. Little Damil did make an effort but somehow found Salman just a little more masterful and adroit. Salman won through an aggregate score of gross 146, two over par over 36 holes while Damil did show nerves in the final playoff, which stretched over three holes.
Zunair Aleem of Defence Raya exhibited champion like approach and his intention to devote himself to competitive golf. It can be said that Salman and Damil and Zunair are the finds of this championship. The final position holders were Salman Jehangir (Gymkhana) 71+75=146; Zunair Aleem (Defence Raya) 74+775=149; Zohaib Asif (Karachi) 74+75=149. The net section winners were Damil Ataullah (first), Maj Fida Tiwana (second) and M Ashfaq (third).
The ladies section winner was Rimsha Ijaz of Margalla Greens with a gross score of 79, representing a forceful effort. The runner-up was Zain un Nisa of Royal Palm. Ghazala Yasmin of Garrison ended up third. The net section performers of ladies section were Shahnaz Moin (first), Ana James Gill (second) and Mrs Maimoona Azam (third).
The invitational section top one was Air Vice Marshal Amir Masood while Maj Gen Azhar Naveed Hayat got second gross and Col Zaheer ul Hassan third. In the race for net honors, the first net was captured by Rear Admiral Asif Khaliq, second by Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and third by Commodore Khalid Ameen.
In juniors, Syed Yashal Shah was first gross, Saad Habib second and Yasin Intekhab third. In net section, Tayyab Tahir won first position, Ahmed Ahsan second and Shahryar Mohteshim third. Javed A Khan emerged as senior category winner while Dr Javed Iqbal was second and Lt Col Waqar Ahmed third. Abdul Nafay was net winner while Brig Nasrullah Khan earned second sport and Maj Gen M Tahir third.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi graced the concluding ceremony as chief guest while AOC Central Command Air Vice Marshal Aamir Masood, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shoukat, DG Rangers Maj Gen Azhar Naveed Hayat, Commodore SM Shahzad were also present on the occasion.
Pakistan Navy Station Commander Lahore Commodore SM Shahazad confirmed that this will be a regular event and was thankful to sponsors like Millat Tractors, Turkish Airlines, Coke and Pepsi, KPT, National Bank and others.
