Pakistan baseball team honoured

LAHORE - Pakistan baseball team, which is going to participate in 27th Seniors Asian Baseball Championship scheduled to be held from September 16 to 20 in Taiwan, was honored by Sports Board Punjab (SBP) at a send-off ceremony held here at National Hockey Stadium on Friday.
The SBP director general hosted a lunch which was attended by national baseball team along with Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) chairman Shaukat Javed, president Syed Khawar Shah and Japanese baseball coach Toma Irokawa.
PFB chairman Shaukat Javed, who is also retired IG Police Punjab, said Pakistan baseball was facing crunch situation during the last couple of years. “We didn’t find any financial support from any quarter. It’s the SBP which came forward and provided us much-needed financial support in our difficult time.” PFB president said: “Pakistan baseball players had been attending strenuous training camp for the last two and half months in Islamabad and Lahore. Japanese coach Toma Irokawa has imparted excellent training to Pakistan baseball team during the camp and it is hoped that the national team will perform well and earn laurels for the country.”
