PHC suspends surgeries in 23 operation theatres

LAHORE - The Punjab Healthcare Commission has suspended all kinds of surgeries in 23 operation theatres of five hospitals, and issued show-cause notices to 17 healthcare establishments for violating the provisions of the PHC Act 2010 and not implementing the Minimum Service Delivery Standards.

According to the details, out of these operation theatres 10 were of the Ittefaq Hospital, whereas the others included Lahore General Hospital five, Government Teaching Hospital Shahdarah four, Sharif Medical City Hospital three and Life Hospital one. Moreover, the respective administrations of these hospitals have been directed to submit laboratory reports to the Commission assuring that standardised measures have been implemented in their theatres. Also, these healthcare establishments have also been served show-cause notices.

During the last two days, the inspection teams of the PHC inspected 28 hospitals, and served show-cause notices on 22 HCEs for their failure to implement the MSDS. These hospitals included Services Hospital, Lady Willingdon Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Institute of Child Health, Gulab Devi Hospital, Wapda Teaching Hospital Complex, Doctors’ Hospital and Medical Centre, Bahria Town Hospital, Arif Memorial Teaching Hospital, Zainab Memorial Hospital, Omer Hospital, Layton Rehmatullah Benevolent Trust Hospital, Saira Memorial Hospital, Khairunnisa Hospital, Horizon Hospital, Mid City Hospital, Masood Hospital and Farooq Hospital.  The spokesperson of the Commission has said that the administrations of all these hospitals have been directed to appear before the PHC committee to explain the reasons for not implementing the MSDS. “They have been also directed to ensure the MSDS implementation immediately,” he added

Couple of days back, the PHC suspended operation services of 52 theatres of 10 hospitals, and issued notices to 28 healthcare establishments for not implementing the MSDSs, and violating the provisions of the PHC Act 2010. Out of the sealed operation theatres , 17 were of the Mayo Hospital, 11 of the Shalimar Hospital, and five of the Kishwar Fazal Teaching Hospital Faizpur Interchange. The rest included four each of the Data Darbar Waqf and Government Mian Mir, three each of the Lady Aitchison and Red Crescent and two each of the THQ Raiwind and Sarwat Anwar Hospital Garden Town.
