Terrorists may hit Capital: Report

ISLAMABAD - Following the acts of terrorism in provincial capitals of Lahore and Peshawar during the current week, an intelligence agency forecast on Friday that Islamabad may be the next target of terrorists in the days to come.
“Terrorists may cause carnage in the federal capital in the days to come as a group of terrorists (currently on radar of an intelligence agency) had reached to target some important personalities including politicians and members of civil society,” a source told TheNation on Friday.
It is important to mention here that it was second time during current month that agencies have warned the high-ups in Islamabad about the possible act of terrorism in the federal capital.
The intelligence agencies had warned the law enforcement agencies on 2nd of July, 2012, that activist of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were planning to target some personalities in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The law enforcement agencies thwarted the plan of terrorism in the light of report of agencies and arrested some terrorists in this connection. “Intelligence about possible terror plot has been shared with law enforcement agencies accordingly,” source added.
Following the warning, law enforcement agencies have reportedly taken stringent security measures to counter the plan of terrorism, the sources said.
Sources from Islamabad police confirmed receiving warning from intelligence agencies and said that police were made highly alert to deal with the terrorists.
They said that special check posts of Rangers have been established at the Margalla Hills while patrolling of joint teams of police and paramilitary forces were being conducted round the clock. He said that suburbs of the Capital city were searched out while snap checking was being conducted by special teams of police.
Meanwhile on Friday, Islamabad Police arrested two accomplices of `fake Pir’ red handed who looted a house in area of Shehzad town police station besides nabbing four other persons in possession of 43 wine bottles and stolen valuables, a police spokesman said on Friday.
According to details, Shehzad town police got information that six persons have stormed in the house of Raja Faheem Ashraf resident of Bilal town and looting the valuables.
Following this information, a special team under the supervision of SHO Shehzad town Inspector Khalaid Masood including ASI Muhammad Farooq and others rushed to the scene and managed to overpower two fleeing dacoits.
They have been identified as Tahir and Yaseen while their four other accomplices managed to escape.
They revealed during initial investigation that one of their absconding accomplice used to portray himself as `Pir’ and got information from the visitors about valuables in their houses. After this, they used to storm in the houses of visitors and loot valuables from there.
They confessed to commit such dacoities in Rawalpindi and Faisalabad too.
The victim Raja Faheem Ashraf told that he is facing unemployment and he contacted `Pir’ who got information from him about valuables in his house on various pretences. Efforts are underway to arrest absconding persons.
