Lahore cops booked on murder charges

ISLAMABAD - A move that has shocked many across the country, mid-career police officers are allegedly working for an industrialist to shoot dead their rivals, family members and relatives.
Investigation done by Jamil Hashmi, superintendent of Islamabad capital territory police (investigation), has recently revealed how the police officers of Lahore police were hired by a Lahore-based industrialist to shoot dead his brother-in-law.
“While investigating a case of murder attempt, we came to know that an industrialist hired two people, including Inspector Zaheer-ud-Din Babar (serving) and ex-cop, to kill his brother-in-law. The ex-cop is in police custody,” SP Hashmi told The Nation. The ex-cop was identified as Arshad Mehmood.
On 25th April 2014, Imran Abid, a chartered accountant by profession, was ambushed by unknown culprits riding on a bike. The victim received six bullets and was seriously injured. A case was registered against unknown accused in Loi Bhair police station on May 6, 2014 under section 324 PPC.
Islamabad police chief advised Hashmi to solve mystery of this blind case. Hashmi constituted a police team including Sub-Inspector Haibat Ullah and ASI Salaman Shah to investigate the case. The team came to know with the help of CCTV footage of Bahria Town that Arshad Mehmood, ex-ASI of Lahore police, was involved in shooting the victim. It transpired that Sh A Qayum, an industrialist of Lahore and brother-in-law of the victim, hired the services of Arshad Mehmood and Zaheer-ud-Din Babar for the purpose. Arrest warrants of Inspector Zaheer have been obtained.
Arshad worked for Lahore police as an ASI over the years. He was suspended and shown the door following repeated mistakes he committed during his police career. His career came to an end last year. Once known as one of the best shooter of Lahore police, Arshad finally landed in the world of criminals and gangsters.
