Railway Station inaugurated in Capital

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour Wednesday inaugurated Islamabad Railway Station, previously named as Margallah Railway Station. Initially the station would link Islamabad to Lahore with one train going each from and to the both cities. Islamabad Railway Station would meet the long cherished need of students, employees and general public, who have to catch trains from Rawalpindi. This station basically involves social service than just revenue generation, the minister said while talking to reporters. He informed this station was operational since April 21 this year on trial basis before its formal inauguration today. We opened it last month to gauge how people respond, and we have got a very encouraging response, the minister said. Bilour said Islamabad Railway Station would soon be linked to other cities of the country. Islamabad doesnt have railway facility so far despite having railway track....its this government, which took this decision, he added. Islamabad Railway Station was established back in 1979, but it could not get functional due to certain reasons. The closure of this railway station is attribute mainly to financial crunches gripping Pakistan Railways over the years. Asked how Pakistan Railways would manage this station in Islamabad given its downward trend, the minister said government was poised to overcome financial constraints.
