PESHAWAR - As many as 300 students of Hazara University Mansehra were awarded degrees on Monday during the 9th convocation of the institute.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, who was the chief guest of the ceremony, congratulated the graduating students and appreciated the University for providing quality education to the students.

Iqbal Zafar Jhagra while addressing the convocation said universities are playing a great role in changing the economic destiny of the nations and inducting the world into the blessings of modern knowledge. This single factor, he added, has contributed a lot towards the comfort, and ease of modern living.

Jhagra said that such institutions by their need-oriented research and close collaboration with the industry had enhanced the GDP of the developed nations, which had been unimaginable previously.

While referring to the annual report presented by Hazara University Mansehra Vice-Chancellor Dr Idrees, the governor said, “Pakistan has also been investing within its financial limits to expand higher education by opening new universities.” The governor urged the need for close collaboration for increased production by using their innovative research in agriculture, chemical industry, medicines, textile, food, and beverages etc.

“This will certainly enhance our economic condition and increase our agricultural and industrial growth,” the governor maintained.

While appreciating the location advantage, he said, the university offers a wonderful environment as a great attraction for the students and young scholars to pursue their academic and research competitiveness.

“The peaceful destination for the eager students has been reflected in the exponential growth of the students which is now more than 13,000 students and 365 faculty members”, he pointed out.

He also appreciated the varsity for holding the national and international level conferences in its different departments which earned a great reputation across the universities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Such conferences, he added, provide golden opportunities for the researchers and academicians to share their innovative ideas and new discoveries in the ongoing research all-over the world.

He also appreciated the carrying forward of Ph.D. and MPhil programs with great success at the campus and said that the passed-out graduates of this university have now joined different positions of dignity and respect inside and outside the country, bringing a good name to their alma mater.

The governor congratulated the passed-out graduates, especially the gold medallists and wished them more successes.  Earlier, the governor gave away degrees to 300 graduating students of Ph.D., MPhil, MA, MSc and BSc, including 103 gold medals on the occasion.

The ceremony was also attended by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, MPAs Nawabzad Wali Muhammad, Abdul Sattar, Nazim Sardar Sayed Ghulam, vice-chancellors of various universities, faculty members, parents and a large number of students.
