Public security, cops prosperity top priority

DPO Zahid Marwat shares his vision

KHANEWAL-Safety and security of the life, property and honour of the common, restoration of police image in the public and welfare of the families of the martyred and retired policemen are the first and foremost priorities, pledged District Police Officer Zahid Hussain Marwat.
"The doors of my office are always opened for justice seekers round the clock."
Talking to The Nation exclusively in his office, DPO Marwat declared that there is no room for corrupt and negligent officials in the Police and such officials would be dealt with iron fist.
He disclosed that during the current year so far, the district police have busted 16 gangs of hardened criminals and arrested.
The policy also recovered booty worth Rs3.9 million from them. Similarly, the Jahanian Police busted "hammer group" and recovered weapon and cellphone used in murder incident.
DPO Marwat informed that during the past two months, the police have registered 71 cases against as many persons for carrying illegal arms and recovered four rifles, 15 guns, 7 revolver, 43 pistols, 2 carbines and 220 cartridges. Similarly, 97 cases of drug trafficking were registered and 8kg of opium, 597g of heroin and 1,557 litres of liquor were recovered besides 10 functional distillery were unearthed. At the same time, the police nabbed 59 gamblers during the last two months and registered 13 FIRs.
About NAP, Zahid Nawaz Marwat asserted that the district police are effectively implementing Nation Action Plan and have registered 50 cases on violations of Punjab Sound System Act, six cases of wall chalking, six cases of Security Ordinance violation and eight cases were registered on violation of property rent act.
"There will be no compromise on transparency in investigation of case to provide justice and no one will be allowed the disgrace or let down the person who approaches the police for help." DPO urged all the police officers never to lose temperament while interacting with the people during duty. He disclosed that a modern computerised complaint centre will be functional very soon in Khanewal DPO office.
"For the past two months, Police Khidmat Centre is providing 12 police-related services to the public under one roof and one window 24/7," he pointed out, adding that these services range from vehicle verification, to police character certificate, lost documents report to FIR copy and learner driving permit issuance.
The DPO mentioned various steps taken for the welfare of the families of martyred and retired policemen. "A modern system has been installed at District Police Lines to ensure smooth supply of water to the employees residing in the Police Line. Similarly, water filtration plant at the police lines has been repaired and renovated to provide pure drinking water to the policemen.
Likewise, four family cases have been forwarded to high-ups for approval while three constables have been recruited on family claim basis. To provide medical facilities to police force, a dispensary has been established in police line while a facilitation desk has been established in DHQ Hospital Khanewal to ensure better healthcare facilities to the police officials.
The DPO maintained that MoUs with various private educational institutions to provide free educational facilities to the police employees and their families.
Similarly, MoUs have been signed with three doctors to provide healthcare facilities to policemen and their families at concessionary rates.
About future plan to upgrade police services, DPO Zahid Marwat shared that it is his vision to ensure access of the common man to every police officer from SHO to DPO, adding that there would be zero tolerance for "tout culture" and corruption. "What I want the policemen to be a formidable force, capable of delivering to the public - be that eradication of crime or helping the common get timely justice," he claimed, adding that the public always look towards police for peace and tranquillity and being the Khanewal DPO, he would never disappoint the public, come what may.
