LAHORE - The Punjab government on Wednesday made amendments in the Local Government Act, 2019 to further simplify the procedure of delimitations and the mode of election for the Local Governments.  Through amendment in Section 15-A of the Local Government Act, all the Deputy Commissioners would be bound to assist and facilitate the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the process of delimitations.  They will provide the required details about the local area of each Local Government for identifying the distribution of population in geographically compact areas.  Through amendment in Section 83, election to the Metropolitan Corporation, Town Council, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee, Town Committee and Tehsil Council shall be made on party basis through secret ballot and involve the return of the head of the local council and the councillors to the reserved seats as joint candidates.  They shall also be elected as joint candidates on the basis of simple majority.
