The resignation of Chief Election Commissioner, Fakhrudddin G Ebrahim has been accepted.
According to a report, the resignation was accepted on August 12. Mr Ebrahim stepped down from the post after harsh criticism from the opposition parties
for what they said was his failure to stop rigging in May 11 elections as well as holding early election of the President which was boycotted by the
PPP on the ground that its candidate did not have enough time to meet members of the Provincial Assemblies to convicnce to vote in his favour.
The report said the government would write letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for the appointment of acting Chief Election Commissioner.
