Pity the viewer

TV talk shows on prime time are flooded with frequent ad-breaks. More often than not, the viewer is likely to switch to another channel as soon as these advertisement breaks begin. I sometimes pity the ultimate consumers who pays for the wasted media expense running in billions of rupees (besides taxes, GST and other levies) that is 'loaded' on to the products they buy. On 4-12-08, the ad-break afforded me an opportunity to watch two ex ministers sermonizing on the dos' and don'ts' of politics and parliamentary imperatives. One former media/railway minister looked like a Lollywood villain in both his body language and his comic delivery while he did the crystal-ball gazing on live TV. The other ex minister, a former custodian of law ministry, quoted all articles of constitutions in defence of a high judicial official. -SALMAN ALI, Multan, via e-mail, December 5.
