Those involved in extrajudicial killings got promoted in Punjab police: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has remarked “ how can we now allow out of turn promotions in police at Punjab when we have imposed a ban on such promotions in Sindh.

He further remarked “ out of turn promotions were given to such police personnel in Punjab who has remained indulged in extrajudicial killings. They have gone to such extent in Punjab that “ kill the man and get out of turn promotion.

He gave these remarks while presiding over a five members bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of out of turn promotion of police officers case here Thursday.

While addressing Khawaja Haris counsel for Nawaz Sharif, CJP remarked “ Khawaja Haris Sahib you should focus attention on trial.

Khawaja Haris replied “we have never sought adjournment from the trial court.

CJP remarked trial court issue is not with us. I have talked generally. On inquiring You are telling that you have never sought date from Accountability Court (AC).

We say to our registrar office your cases should not be fixed as long as the trial is there. You come on Monday only and the case runs for two days.

Khawaja Haris said the AC gives the date on its own. I have never sought date from AC. You can summon the record and see it.

The CJP remarked “ we have imposed the ban on out of turn promotion of police in Sindh. How can we allow it in Punjab?

Such persons were granted out of turn promotions in Punjab who were behind extrajudicial killings. We will withdraw the out of turn promotions which have been given through courts.

CJP remarked tell us how can we leave those who have got out of turn promotion through courts. We have to deliver justice.

CJP remarked “ this has happened that kill the man and get out of turn promotion. Those who killed the people were given promotions in Punjab.

He observed we have to set principles no matter how many people are affected by court’s decision.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till Monday.
