PESHAWAR - Customs authorities foiled a smuggling bid and seized 28 M-16 American rifles here on Friday, officials said.
Addressing a press conference at Customs House, KP Customs Chief Collector, Ahmed Raza Khan said that following a tip-off, they flagged down a truck (EA-7876) at customs checkpoint near Mattani road in Peshawar and recovered 28 M-16 US-made automatic rifles from the hidden cavities of the vehicle.
Flanked by high ranking Customs officials, Ahmed Raza said, the weapons worth Rs30 million had been smuggled from Afghanistan. He said the driver identified as Said Muhammad, an Afghan national, was also arrested along with the truck and an FIR lodged against him.
