OIC invites Mirwaiz

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has invited the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to participate in its Foreign Ministers meet to be held at Kazakhstan in last week of this month. I have the honour and pleasure to invite you on the behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and General Secretariat of the OIC to participate in the 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers to be held at Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan from June 28 to 30 as an invitee for the sessions except those which are closed to Member States only, OIC Secretary General, Ekmeluddin Ihsanoglu wrote in the invitation letter to Mirwaiz. Mirwaiz said that he would participate in the session to represent the sentiments and aspirations of Kashmiris. We welcome the initiative in view of political scenario in Muslim countries like Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt. I hope body will play an effective role in resolving all issues including Kashmir, he said. Pertinently, Hurriyat Conference enjoys an observer status in OIC since 1998, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq first time participated in its meet in 1994 in Casablanca, Morocco. Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Niger and Iran are the members of its contact group on Kashmir.
