Ex Army Chief Gen Raheel donates Rs2m to GCU

Former chief of the army staff Gen (retired) Raheel Sharif donated Rs2 million to the Government College University (GCU) Endowment Fund Trust that helps the financially challenged students for paying their fees.

Raheel Sharif was the chief guest at the annual dinner of Old Ravians Union on Saturday night.

He also addressed on the occasion saying that the visit to his alma mater had filled him with nostalgia of student life.

He said, “I strongly miss the maroon blazer, my motorbike and all the flavors of a Ravian life, especially the respect.”

Ex-COAS said that besides him, his two brothers - Maj Shabbir Sharif Shaheed (Nisha-e-Haider) and Capt Mumtaz Sharif also studied at GCU. He further added that his sister has also done her Masters from the same institution.

Gen Raheel praised his teachers for instilling the values and spirit in him which helped him to fight various challenges in life with dignity and honour.

Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice Chancellor GCU, said a sum of Rs360 million had been collected by the GCU Endowment Fund Trust to help more than 600 students every year.
