Walled city project to promote tourism in Multan

MULTAN    -  Deputy Commissioner Ali Shehzad said that the walled city project would help promote tourism in the city.

The DC expressed these views during a visit to walled city project office at Ghanta Ghar Chowk here on Thursday. He said that Multan was an ancient city, and adding that the vast tourism opportunities could be created by restoring the city into its original condition.

He said that nations always preserve their history and culture. The DC said that the historical heritage of the city would be restored. He ordered to prepare a plan to initiate work on third phase of the walled city project.

While giving briefing to DC, officials said that Rs189 million out of Rs250 million have been spent so far on walled city project. Haram Gate, Inn (Musafir Khana) have been restored into its actual condition. The work on restoration of gold market was also underway as Rs32 million to be spent on it.

It was told in the briefing that around 1500 tourists visited the city last month.

Accused shot at, injured

An accused was shot at and injured in police custody when he was moving away for the recovery of weapons used in crime.

The incident believed to be occurred as police encounter reported at Basti Ghagay Walla, in the limits of Dunyapur City Police Station in wee hours of Thursday.

According to police, unidentified accomplices of the accused named Abdul Majid opened fire on police team to help him escape from the police custody.

The police resorted to firing in retaliation. However, the accused was injured as one of the bullets shot by his accomplice hit the knee of his right leg. DSP Aslam rushed to the spot along with his team. They cordoned off the area and started to search the accused that had opened fire on police.
