MINGORA, Swat - At least five persons were killed and several others injured as a result of suicide attack on a checkpost of the security forces at Wali Abad near Khawazakhela town of Swat district on Saturday morning. The killed and injured included personnel of the security forces including Army. As per details, a suicide bomber struck his explosive-laden motorcar with the security forces check post at Wali Abad. The check post was established in the house owned by a leader of a banned religious group. The eyewitnesses informed that soon after the suicide attack, the site of the occurrence was cordoned off by personnel of armed forces and civilians were not allowed to enter the site. Even the personnel of armed forces didnt permit the officers and officials of civilian departments to visit the place or contribute to the rescue activities. The officials informed that the suicide explosion was so severe that it caused the death of three personnel on the spot whereas two others succumbed to their injuries later. Five persons were injured who were shifted to hospital. Soon after the suicide attack, curfew like situation emerged as all roads of the area were blocked for traffic. Civilians from the entire area rushed to their homes and hujras. The personnel of security forces also resorted to firing in the air, which caused panic and unrest among the people. It may be mentioned here that it was the first-ever suicide attack since the start of military action against Taliban militants in April last. The government claimed flushing out militants from the area and dislodging their network. The authorities claim that during military action around 1700 militants were killed, injured and apprehended in the entire Malakand region. However, top leaders and commanders of Taliban are still at large who, it is feared, could cause a continued atmosphere of horror and terror in the region for a long time.
