Top meeting held: IGP orders Muharram security in Sukkur range

KARACHI   -  Inspector General of Sindh Police Mushtaq Mahar, while presiding over a review meeting on security measures in Sukkur Range and its districts on the occasion of Muharram-ul-Haram, directed that responsibilities such as protection of life and property of the people should be ensured with utmost vigilance and diligence.

He directed officials that security of processions’ routes and congregation venues till Ashura Day should be ensured in coordination and consultation with Ulema, Zakirs and organisers. In view of past experiences and incidents, the security at the possible flash points on the routes of the processions should be made solid and extraordinary.

The IGP said that anti-riot platoons equipped with all equipment and weapons should be kept in a state of readiness to deal with possible emergencies.

He said that in order to prevent hateful religious wall-chalking and distribution of pamphlets, it was necessary to implement the Loudspeaker Act and the Fourth Schedule List during Muharram in accordance with the law. 

The IGP directed the DIG and district SSPs of Sukkur Range to formally instruct relevant SHOs to monitor the overall Muharram security measures under their presence in the areas and take immediate action when required. In addition, special attention should be paid to the command and control room set up to monitor the overall security measures during Muharram.

Attending the meeting through video link, Ulema and Zakirs Syed Miran Shah, Syed Rakhyal Shah, Maulana M Saleh, Maulana Mehboob Ali, Syed Jafar Ali Shah, Syed Saghir Hussain, Zafar Ali Lashari, Maulana Muhammad Ishaq Lashari and Mian Muhammad Aslam expressed satisfaction over the security and assured to coordinate the police for Muharram security.
