Nazar wins Punjab Chess Championship

LAHORE - Nazar Hussain from Sheikhupura won the Punjab Chess Championship 2014 which concluded at Pakpattan on Monday. In the last round, Nazar was tied to play against Mudasir Iqbal from Multan. Nazar played solidly and held Mudassir to a draw to clinch the title. Mudassir won the third position while Fauzan Ullah from Lahore was second. Nazar won six games and drew only one. A total of 48 games were played on the last day. Professor Rana Tariq Aziz gave away trophies and cash prizes to the top five players. Punjab’s 10-member chess team will compete in the upcoming National Chess Championship. At the prize distribution ceremony, Pakistan Chess Federation (PCF) secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza also announced various incentives for the young players vying to compete at the national level.
