HAFIZABAD/GUJRANWALA - All the four accused involved in allegedly extracting blood samples/bone marrow from women under pretences were produced before an anti-terrorism court which remanded them in police custody for 11 days.
They included Sajid, Muhammad Aslam Hunjra, Irfan and ringleader Nadeem Iqbal. Meanwhile, the Punjab chief minister took a note of the scandal and instituted a high power fact finding committee headed by RPO Sheikhupura Zulfiqar Hameed and SSP Range Crimes Sheikhupura Altaf Gondal, Additional Secretary Technical and a representative of Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory Lahore to ascertain the facts behind the scam.
The committee has started thorough inquiry into the issue of extracting bone marrow from women. In this connection, the SSP visited Hafizabad and recorded the statements of the affected women.
Meanwhile, the city police raided a house in Rawat (Rawalpindi) and arrested Wajid, a close relative of Sajid of DHQ Hospital Hafizabad, who had allegedly purchased the blood samples.
The police have registered three more cases against the accused under the Anti-Terrorist Act and other sections of PPC.
The DPO told the media that the polygraph test of the ring leader of the racket Nadeem Iqbal and hospital employee Sajid has been conducted while samples of the affected women were sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory Lahore.
He further said that investigation of the case is being conducted on modern lines to ascertain the motive of extraction of the bone marrow.
Meanwhile, FIA in a crackdown arrested six more human traffickers from different areas of the region. Deputy director Mufakhir Adeel said that accused Arshad, Nazir, Usman, Waris, Mazher Iqbal and Khuram Shahzad were involved in sending people abroad illegally and anti-corruption teams arrested them from Gujrat, Mandi Baha ud Din and Gujranwala.
A man was crushed to death by a car while crossing the road at GT Road Kamoki Gujranwala. It was reported that Nadir Hussain, 60, was crossing the road when a speeding car ran over him. Resultantly, he received serious injuries and was being rushed to hospital when he succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
Thieves took away cash and valuables from a house in Nawan Lahore area. Complainant Zaigham Abbas told police that his family members had gone out when someone broke in his house and took away cash of Rs100,000, 2600 euros, gold ornaments and other valuables.
