HAFIZABAD - Despite rain, the faithfuls observed “Chehlum” of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) with religious fervour amid tight security on Sunday.
The police made foolproof security arrangements by deploying hundreds of policemen and installed walkthrough gates outside central Imambargah near Fawara Chowk here. All roads and streets leading to the place of congregation were properly sealed off. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.
On the occasion, speakers appealed to their audience to imbibe the sprit behind the supreme sacrifice of the great Imam to uphold the truth and righteousness for the glorification of Islam. They also appealed to them to unite and maintain interfaith and intersect harmony to foil the evil designs of the anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan forces who were hell-bent on destabilising the country.
VETERAN LEAGUER DIES: Rai Muhammad Shafi, a veteran Muslim Leaguer, prominent landlord and businessman of Hafizabad, died here after protracted illness. He was 85.
He was laid to rest in his village graveyard “Peelo” on Pindi Bhattian road Sunday morning. The funeral was attended by large number of social and political workers including MPAs and landlords of the district.
