Jewellers threaten shutdown


HAFIZABAD - The jewellers and goldsmith of Hafizabad continued their strike for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday against biggest-ever dacoity in the shop of Haji Nasir Iqbal on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
Police have so far failed to get any clue in this respect. However, the police have apprehended a few suspects for interrogation.
Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran President Sheikh Muhammad Amjad warned that the traders across the district would stage sit-ins and observe shutdown if the police failed to arrest of the culprits and recovery the booty.
He also criticised the police negligence and inaction in the face of rising robberies and demanded the police high-ups to take notice of the worst situation. Meanwhile, Hafizabad Saddar Circle Police SDPO has been transferred due poor performance and failure to control the crime.
HOUSE LOOTED: Some unidentified burglars broke into the house of Mushtaq Ahmad near Raja Chowk Hafizabad last night and made off with gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth million of rupees.  The house owner was away when the burglary stormed the house. The police are investigating.
CITY RECEIVES RAIN: The City and its suburbs on Sunday received first substantial rain of the winter which was welcomed by citizens and growers.
According to agricultural expert Ch Aman Ullah Chattha, the rain would be very beneficial to the standing crops and fodders.
Sport Committee awarded Rs10,000: District Sport Committee has awarded Rs10,000 to Raja Hasnain who won single and double in the 16th National Badminton Tournament concluded in Faisalabad recently. On the occasion, the DCO also prised the services of senior coach Hamed Raza Malik and he was also rewarded Rs5,000.

He said that tournaments of different sports and athletics would be held at union council level across the district from January 16.
