LONDON - English literary writings in or about Pakistan raise question of belonging, exile and alienation, said renowned Pakistani English writer Dr Waseem Anwar while addressing a function held at Pakistan High Commission in London for inauguration of South Asian Review — special issue on the Pakistani English creative writing, and at South Asian Literary Association/Modern Languages Association (SALA/MLA) conference 2012 in Seattle, USA.
Dr Waseem Anwar, Dean of Humanities and Chair of English at FC College University, said that these writers raise the question of belonging, exile and alienation, but also look back to their homeland in terms of nostalgia that is at once painful yet cathartic and therapeutic.
In the Seattle SALA/ MLA conference, Dr Anwar’s presentation was about “Performing Identities, Protecting Ideologies: Pakistani Diasporic English Writers in the Streak of Nostalgia.”
