ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party supremo Asif Ali Zardari yesterday directed his party supporters to vote for the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) candidates in the July 17 by-polls.
PPP leaders told The Nation that Zardari was optimistic about the victory of the PPP-backed PML-N candidates against the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.
“We are allies and coalition partners. We must win. The PPP supporters must vote for the PML-N candidates,” Zardari said in messages to the PPP leaders across Punjab. He said the victory of the PML-N candidates will also stabilise the polit ical situation and burry PTI chief Imran Khan’s false narrative. PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, who is the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Kashmir Affairs, told The Nation that the PPP was sincerely supporting the PML-N candidates in the Punjab by-polls. “The PPP leadership wants the PML-N candidates to win as we are supporting them,” he added. Kaira said the Punjab government will remain with the PPP, PML-N and allies after the elections as the people had rejected the PTI’s narrative and propaganda. The by-poll campaign on as many as 20 Punjab Assembly seats ended yesterday midnight, according to the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The by-polls on the 20 seats will be conducted on July 17, 2022 (Sunday).
