PHC seeks report on prices of sweets

Peshawar   -  Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday sought a detailed report on the prices of various kinds of sweets and also raised a question about the categorisation of confectioners.

A two-member bench, headed by PHC Chief Justice Qaisar Rashid Khan, questioned why sweets were being sold on different prices and rates.

During the hearing, deputy commissioner Kohat and the additional advocate general also appeared before the court. The bench said that bakers and confectioners must also have some standards that sell quality sweets.

To a question of the court about whether or not the confectioners have been categorised, the deputy commissioner Kohat stated that they have regularly categorised the bakers and confectioners and that their prices were also fixed accordingly.

The chief justice said that the famous bakers in the city areas had fixed different rates for sweets while those selling the commodity in rural areas have different rates.

The court said that some bakers sell sweets for Rs300 per kilogram, and some sell the same for Rs500. The court asked the officials to submit a report about which procedure is adopted for fixing the rates of sweets.
