KARACHI - The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday annoyed at police officials and other relevant authorities over the non-recovery of missing person Mohammad Omar Farooq.
A high court bench heard a petition filed by the family of Farooq for the recovery of their beloved one.
The court expressed anger over non-recovery of Farooq. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the police report. “Police performance is disappointing,” the court remarked.
The court sought a progress report from the Home Secretary.
Police’s efforts to recover a missing citizen for years are not visible, the court said. Later, the court adjourned the case till April 21.
SHC rejects bail plea of FBR inspector, others
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday rejected an appeal filed by an inspector of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and others against sentence in sale tax refund case.
The high court rejected the appeal of FBR inspector Mumtaz Nizami, Muhammad Asif and Adil Ashraf. The court considered the time spent by the accused in jail as a sentence. The court ordered to maintain the amount of fine Rs10,000,000 on the accused. The court also upheld the order disqualifying the accused from holding public and government posts. According to the NAB prosecutor RD Kalhoro, the accused formed fake companies with the connivance of FBR inspector and got a tax refund. The accused caused more than Rs11 crore of damage to the national exchequer, NAB prosecutor said. The accountability court had sentenced five years of jail term to Mumtaz Nizamani and 10 years to Asif and Adil Ashraf each. The accused have spent seven years and five months in jail.
SHC upholds death sentence of murder accused
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday rejected an appeal filed by a convicted accused against the death sentence in the murder case.
The high court rejected the appeal of the accused Shahid Ali and upheld the death sentence awarded to him by a local court. The accused was convicted on solid evidence, the court said. Accused Shahid Ali is accused of killing a citizen named Wasim. The Sessions Court had sentenced the accused in 2018. A case of murder was registered against the accused at Saeedabad police station in 2014.
