Regulatory duty on cotton yarn import flayed

RAWALPINDI - Senior Vice President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Syed Ali Raza Saeed Shah has strongly condemned the Govts decision to impose 16 per cent regulatory duty on the import of cotton yarn. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of the traders and industrialists at his office here on Saturday. Syed Ali Raza Saeed said that textile sector had played a vital role in national economy and it contributed 60 per cent share in the over all exports of the country. He further said that almost 3.5 million people were working in the sector and textile sector added $4.5b in the national exchequer every year. He remarked that if the Government insisted on the imposition of the said duty, not only it would affect the employment opportunities in the sector but also the foreign exchange reserves earned through this sector. He demanded of the Government to take back its decision at the earliest. Speaking on the occasion, Vice President Khawja Abdur Rashid Waien said that two giant departments of the country Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Steel Mill were facing huge deficit per year and Govt constantly was ignoring these two industries. He said that these departments could play an effective role in boosting the national economy and demanded of the Govt to take every possible step to bring these two giants out of crisis.
