Student leader among 5 killed in different mishaps

KARACHI - Five people were killed in separate incidents of violence and mishaps in different parts of the city on Friday. According to details, Deputy Secretary General of Punjabi Students Associations (PSA) was gunned down near Allama Iqbal College in the limits of Model Colony Police Station. According to the police officials, the victim Sultan, son of Sirajuddin, was 28-year-old. He was going home with his friend when unidentified armed men came on motorcycle and opened indiscriminate firing on him near Allama Iqbal College, Model Colony. Resultantly he died on the spot, while the culprits manage to flee easily. Police shifted his body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal Formalities. The victim was a student of B.Com, and resident of Millat Town. After the incident, tension engulfed the surrounding areas and shops and market were closed due to uncertain condition. A lot of PSA worker rushed towards Sharah Faisal and protested against police. They demanded the arrest of the culprits. No case was registered till filing of this report. Similarly a man was gunned down near Fatima Arcade, FB Area, within the limits of Jauharabad Police Station. Police said that the victim, 43-year-old, Muhammad Ehsan, son of Rehmat Ullah, was sitting outside Fatima Arcade with his friend Rafique and others when two men on a motorcycle reached and opened firing on him. Ehsan received two bullet wounds. Police shifted him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he succumbed to his injures. Officer said the victim was the resident of Zakia Square Block 7, FB Area. The victims brother Kashif was also killed in same manner at Liaquatabad three years back. Police registered an FIR No 561/10 against unidentified men on the complaint of victims father and initiated probe into the case. Meanwhile, a fruit vendor was gunned down due to offering resistance in robbery bid near Jhangir Park in the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station. According to the police officials, fruit vendor Asghar Baig, 32, son of Shamim Baig was going home after closing the fruit stall with his friend Akbar on the wee hours of Friday. When they reached near Jamia Mosque, Gulzar Habib, three armed men tried to loot them. Asghar offered resistance and one of the the armed men opened firing on him. Resultantly he died on the spot, while culprits managed to escape with Rs 6,000. Police shifted his body to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and later handed over to his brother Intizaar Baig. The victim was the resident of Doli Khata, and hailed from Faisalabad, Punjab, and father of three children. Police registered an FIR No 423/10 against unidentified men on the complaint of victims brother and further investigation are underway. In another incident, a minor was crushed to death near Bhains Colony More in the limits of Shah Latif Police Station. Inquiry Officer Muhammad Akbar said the four-year-old Bilal, son of Nawab, was playing near his home situated near Razzakabad Training Centre when a speedy Shahzore truck bearing registration no JY-0550 hit him and he died on the spot. Similarly a labourer was crushed to death at PIDC railway crossing within the limits of City Railway Police Station. The victim was identified as Amjad, 29, son of Farooq. He was resident of Railway Colony.
